Children

Child Minding (3 months – 5 years)
This service included with a family membership, can be utilized by those who require care for their child(ren) while using the YMCA. Time limit: 2 hours Come join us. There's no need to register! 

Silly Science (6-12)
Become a Y Silly Scientist and learn to do fun experiments through hands on activities.

All Sort of Sports (6-12)
This program is an opportunity for participants to engage in a variety of different sports.  They will learn the basic skills needed to play the game. 

Drama (6-12)
Ready, Set, Action! You will learn to explore drama through theatre games and improvisations.  In this program you will build your confidence,  learn new skills and get creative.

Dance - Ballet/Jazz (6-8)
YMCA Ballet/Jazz expand on children's knowledge of fundamental movements and dance in a fun and supportive environment. Children will expand on their coordination, flexibility, rhythm, balance and strength. By participating in the YMCA dance program children will further build on their Ballet/Jazz vocabulary, gain a technical understanding, interact with others, hone their creativity and most importantly - experience the joys of dance!  

Dance - Hip Hop (9-12 years)
 YMCA Hip-Hop teaches children basic techniques and introduces children to fundamental hip-hop moves in a fun and supportive environment, while also honing children’s musicality, coordination, rhythm, and creativity. In YMCA Hip-Hop, children will be introduced to hip-hop vocabulary and technique, interact with others, have an outlet for expression, and most importantly - experience the joys of dance!

Fundamental Soccer (6-8)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to basic and more advanced soccer skills through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills.  Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session. 

Learn to Train Basketball(9-12 years)
This program will focus on learning the game of basketball in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to the basic and more advanced skills of basketball through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills and develop fundamental sport skills.  Both basketball and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session. 

Dodgeball(9-12 years)
This is a fun, active game of throwing, catching and dodging balls in a non-competitive environment.  Enjoy many variations of this classic game!

Preschool Gym and Swim (3-5 years)
Preschool drop in that includes both  gym time and a swim. 

Iron Kids*(9-12 years)
This is a kid's triathlon meaning that it will consist of three elements: swimming, biking and running.  Ask your branch for specific details.

Drop Zone*(6-12 years)
 A 30 minute early drop off program. Drop off your child, ages 6 – 12, 30 minutes before scheduled programming! Children will participate in games and activities before being picked up by staff members and brought to their age appropriate evening program.

Learn to Train Soccer (9-12 years)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to the basic and more advanced skills of soccer through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills and develop fundamental sport skills.  Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session. 

Construction Kids (6-12 years)
This program challenges children to use the provided resources to construct different things such as a bridge out of popsicle sticks, or an egg drop parachute out of a plastic bag and other materials. 

Playground Games (6-12)
This program provides children the opportunity to play both traditional and non traditional playground games in a non-competitive environment that focuses on participation, physical activity and fun. 

Dance – Ballet (3-5 years, 6-8 years)
A classical dance form characterized by grace, precision, proper alignment and posture. Students will gain knowledge of the vocabulary of ballet terminology. The skills developed in ballet are the foundation for many styles and levels of dance. Dancers will improve coordination, flexibility and strength in a fun and challenging environment. Using centre work, emphasis is always placed on correct posture, placement, and technique. Ballet is a strong basis for all dancers who wish to take jazz, lyrical, or tap classes.  This style of dance focuses on accomplishing a set of controlled steps while maintaining grace, elegance, and posture.

Active and Creative Kids (6-12 years)
Active and Creative Kids offers a variety of activities for children aged 6-12 years old including sports, crafts, active games and fitness. The goal of this program is to encourage children to have a healthy lifestyle in a supervised, fun and safe environment. Come join us. There is no need to register!

Karate – Goju-Ryu  (5+ years)
Since 1985, The Goju-Ryu Karate Canada Association (GKK Canada) has helped children develop self confidence plus improve agility and reflexes through positive reinforcement through the martial art of Goju-Ryu! GKK Canada Blackbelt instructors are all members of the Ontario Provincial and Canadian Sport governing bodies, certified in First Aid, CPR and in NCCP Karate Coaching methodology. Introducing a strong foundation of discipline, dignity and respect that translates into all parts of your life. Dedicated training towards excellence physically, mentally and spiritually.

Classroom Games (6-12 years) 
A variety of classroom games will be played in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

Active Start Basketball* (3-5 years)

FUNdamental Basketball* (6-8 years)
This program will focus on learning the basics of basketball in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to the basic skills of basketball through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills.

Learn to Train Basketball*

Creations for a Cause (6-12 years) 
In this class we will be teaching children about philanthropy and how to give back to their community in fun and creative ways.

Fun with Foods (6-12 years) 
In a safe learning environment that encourages discovery and creativity, children learn to have fun with food!

Karate Advanced**     (5+)  
This is an advanced level class.  You must pass the first test in order to participate in this level of karate.

Dualthalon Kids*   (6-8 years)  
This is a kid's duathlon meaning that it will consist of two elements: swimming and running.  Ask your branch for specific details. 
• You must be able to swim a full length of the pool to register.

Parent and Tot Messy Madness (1-3 years)
Parents and children will have a great time getting messy and creating works of art in this fun and interactive class. Each week will feature different arts and crafts projects. ALL participants should wear old clothes and come prepared to get messy!

StrollerFit ****
A great way to get back into fitness!  Stroller fit is geared towards new parents who would like to stay active and keep in contact with their children.  Bootcamp style workouts will utilize the stroller and baby as part of the workout!!  Recommended to bring children under 18 months.
