Preschool Programs

Preschool Active and Creative Play (3-5 years)
This program is for pre school aged children 3-5 years of age. Children get to participate in active games, creative and craft activities, literacy time, and show and tell, among other age appropriate activities that promote social interaction, physical activity, and motor skill development.

Preschool Dance and Creative Play (3-5 years)
This program is for pre school aged children 3-5 years of age. Children engage in song and dance before they get to participate in active games, creative and craft activities, literacy time, and show and tell, among other age appropriate activities that promote social interaction, physical activity, and motor skill development.

Preschool Gymnastics and Creative Play (3-5 years)
This program is for pre school aged children 3-5 years of age. Children engage in gymnastics and tumbling before they get to participate in active games, creative and craft activities, literacy time, and show and tell, among other age appropriate activities that promote social interaction, physical activity, and motor skill development.

Art for Kids (3-5 years)
Each week participants will have the opportunity to express themselves through different visual arts activities often getting the chance to get their hands dirty!  

Basketball: Active Start (3-5 years)
This basketball program is instructed with an emphasis on physical literacy to ensure that these little ones are developing fundamental movement skills from a young age. A games based approach ensures that the program is kept fun and engaging while the participants learn basketball fundamentals. 

Gymnastics: Active Start (3-5 years)
This physical-literacy based program builds on basic gymnastics skills and floor work techniques while focusing on improving balance, flexibility, strength and special awareness, led by a trained gymnastics coach. 

Karate (3 years +)
A non-aggressive approach towards conflict resolution is emphasized in this program as well as instruction in all the basic blocks, kicks and striking techniques.  

Fri-Y (3-12 years)
Want to catch a movie or catch up on your to do list? Fri-Y offers you the opportunity to sign your child into the program leave the building for the program duration. Fri-Y is the ONLY program that allows you to drop your child off and leave the building. We provide a pizza and juice dinner and engage your children in active, creative, and swimming games. There is a weekly fee for this program.

A non-aggressive approach towards conflict resolution is emphasized in this program as well as instruction in all the basic blocks, kicks and striking techniques. 

Kids Gymnastics (3-12 years)
Groups of similarly aged children receive instruction from a certified gymnastics coach where they have the opportunity to practice many skills including tumbling, the high bar, balance beam, and spring board.

Climbing Kids (3-12 years)
Our new High Ropes program is a fantastic way for your child to grow in strength, mind and body. Your child will reach new heights both mentally and physically, while challenging their inner strength. High ropes will give your child confidence in their ability to reach the top and never give up. This team building exercise will reinforce the importance of mutual trust and support, as friends cheer from the ground. Watch as your child reaches new heights in their confidence, strength and ability as they meet new friends and tackle the high ropes.

This program is designed to encourage a love of dance and movement while developing a stronger sense of body awareness and coordination. This program is run by the professional dance studio - Dance Steps.

 

Children’s Programs

Art for Kids (6-12 years)
Each week participants will have the opportunity to express themselves through different visual arts activities often getting the chance to get their hands dirty! Weekly themes will include different painting techniques, sketching.

Kids Gymnastics (3-12 years)
Groups of similarly aged children receive instruction from a certified gymnastics coach where they have the opportunity to practice many skills including tumbling, the high bar, balance beam, and spring board.

Ballet (6-9 years)
This program is designed to encourage a love of dance and movement while developing a stronger sense of body awareness and coordination. Program run by experienced dance staff. 

Basketball: FUNdamentals (6-8 years)
This basketball program is instructed with an emphasis on physical literacy to ensure that these little ones are developing fundamental movement skills from a young age. A games based approach ensures that the program is kept fun and engaging while the participants learn basketball fundamentals. 

Dodgeball (6-12 years)
This is a fun, active game of throwing, catching and dodging balls in a non-competitive environment.  Enjoy many variations of this classic game! 

London Lightning Basketball: Freshman & Junior (8-12 years)
The YMCA London Lightning Basketball Leagues provide players with an opportunity to improve their fundamental skills and develop their basketball potential. Take your game to new levels, have fun and learn from experienced coaches. 

Floor Hockey (3-5 years, 6-8 years, & 9-12 years)
This program will focus on skill building, teamwork, and fair play. Participants will participate in an opening circle, warm up, skill focused drills, and scrimmages. This program is facilitated by child and youth staff with backgrounds in hockey.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in sports conditioning as instructed by a certified fitness instructor. They will learn the fundamentals of exercise and sport specific training and have a fun time doing it!

Go Girls (9-12 years)
In a group of like-minded individuals, your child will explore their values and learn how to be a successful leader. Your child will gain an appreciation for open mindedness, self-reflection, positive peer relationships and community involvement through this mentorship program. Each week participants will have the opportunity to explore new themes and activities including; rope courses, nutrition, art, fitness, science, special guest speakers and lots more!

Y Guys (9-12 years)
In a group of like-minded individuals, your child will explore their values and learn how to be a successful leader. Your child will gain an appreciation for open mindedness, self-reflection, positive peer relationships and community involvement through this mentorship program. Each week participants will have the opportunity to explore new themes and activities including; rope courses, nutrition, art, fitness, science, special guest speakers and lots more!

Growing Chefs (9-12 years)
The YMCA of Western Ontario and Growing Chefs Ontario have partnered to provide children ages 9-12 with a cooking program that introduces children to cooking techniques and methods while emphasizing healthy eating and the importance of local food. Your child will have to role up their sleeves and join their group in the preparation of some amazing food themed dishes. 

Hip Hop (7-14 years)
This program is designed to encourage a love of dance and movement while developing a stronger sense of body awareness and coordination. Program run by the professional dance studio - Dance Steps. 

Karate (6-12 years)
A non-aggressive approach towards conflict resolution is emphasized in this program as well as instruction in all the basic blocks, kicks and striking techniques.   

Kids Gymnastics: Level 1 and Level 2 (6-12 years)
Groups of similarly aged children receive instruction from a certified gymnastics coach where they have the opportunity to practice many skills including tumbling, the high bar, balance beam, and spring board. Level 2 participants should be capable of a cart wheel, a roll, and able to traverse the balance beam. 

Silly Science (6-12 years)
Become a  Silly Scientist and learn to do fun experiments through hands on activities.

Sports Conditioning (6-12 years)
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in sports conditioning as instructed by a certified fitness instructor. They will learn the fundamentals of exercise and sport specific training and have a fun time doing it! 

Lets Get Cooking (9-12 years)
Let’s Get Cookin’ is designed to teach children and youth basic cooking skills. The program provides basic nutrition tips and includes recipes that emphasize vegetables and fruits.

It is based on a “train the trainer” model. Registrants in this program are automatically registered for Growing Chefs sessions.

Origami (9-12 yrs)
Have you ever tried to learn how to do paper folding? We will do Japanese and Canadian weekly themes using a step by step process to create some cool Japanese Paper Folding Art. Participants will improve fine motor skills and concentration by doing more difficult paper folding crafts.  From animals to detailed flowers, you will learn it all here. (Punctuality is important since it will be a step-by-step process).

Fri-Y (3-12 years)
Want to catch a movie or catch up on your to do list? Fri-Y offers you the opportunity to sign your child into the program leave the building for the program duration. Fri-Y is the ONLY program that allows you to drop your child off and leave the building. We provide a pizza and juice dinner and engage your children in active, creative, and swimming games. There is a weekly fee for this program.

Friday Youth Membership Days (13-24 years)
Youth ages 13-24 years of age have FREE access to our facility and all its amenities every Friday. They can play basketball in the gymnasium, work out in the fitness area, or go for a swim, free of charge. Youth are required to show a Photo ID the first time they come for this purpose.

Friday Teen Membership Days
Every Friday is Teen Membership Day where ages 13-24 years get free access to the building having the opportunity to use the pool, adult fitness areas, gymnasium, and studio including ping pong! Teens get a membership card that will give them access on Fridays. 

Karate (10+ years)
A non-aggressive approach towards conflict resolution is emphasized in this program as well as instruction in all the basic blocks, kicks and striking techniques.   

London Lightning Basketball League (8-13 years)
Participants will join the St. Thomas YMCA’s London Lightning Basketball Team, practice with them, and compete in tournaments against other YMCA branches. The fee for this program includes a jersey. Inquire for details.

YExperienceU (13-16 years)
YExperienceU helps build strong, confident and employable young adults, through unique and empowering experiences. In an 8-month term, 2.5 hours per week, youth learn hands-on skills tailored to their interests (exploring technology, the outdoors and food skills), gain experiences that help them get job ready, and create confident plans for tomorrow. Best of all, the program leads to a culminating special event at the end of the term, where participants showcase their skills in the real-world. This is a fee based program. Please inquire for more information.
