New to Canada

If you are new to Canada, the Y has programs to help you transition into your new community, whether you are in London & Area or Windsor & Essex.

EIHC (Windsor & Essex)

This initiative consists of four distinct program models that bring together newcomers and Canadians to facilitate learning opportunities and help address common issues. Each program model focus on one of four components (individuals, families, communities [as identified by geography, language, nationality, age etc.] and community stakeholders) that each promotes the successful integration of newcomers while playing a role in building a healthy and vibrant Windsor-Essex community. EIHC is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

LINC (London & Windsor)

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) is an English as a second language program for adult immigrants who are permanent residents and have not yet received Canadian Citizenship. LINC teaches listening, speaking, reading and writing based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

NSP (Windsor & Essex)

The Newcomer Settlement Program provides Refugee Claimants, Canadians not born in Canada and newcomers with temporary status with information, referral, and advice on various settlement and integration issues including immigration, government forms and services, community and social services, education, housing, employment and getting connected to the community.

NYLD (Windsor & Essex)

With a focus on self-governance and opportunities for newcomer youth to establish social and professional networks, participants ages 13-24 partake in programming pertaining to leadership training, volunteerism, settlement, recreation, wellness, sports and the arts. NYLD is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

ORIENTATION (Windsor & Essex)

Orientation services for immigrants who are Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees provide help or give information in regards to immigration, government forms and services, community and social services, education, housing, employment and getting connected with others in the community.

YMAP

YMAP is a YMCA Integration & Leadership Program - Mapping the Way for Newcomer Youth in London! Participants must be attending high school and be a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee.
