Health and Fitness for Children

Offerings will vary depending on the season. Please check the current program schedule for more details. 

Child (0-5yrs)

Active Start Gymnastics (3-5 Years)*
Learning the basic skill and floorwork of gymnastics in a fun and active environment.
Introduction to basic skills such as star and tuck jumps, forward and backward rolls,cartwheels, hand stands and bridges

Preschool Active and Creative Play (3-5yrs)
This program for 3-5 year olds includes 1 hour of fun indoor/outdoor play followed by ½ hour fun swim in our pool.

Preschool Gym and Swim (3-5 yrs)
Preschool drop in that includes both gym time and a swim.

Intro to Ballet (3-4 years) *
Ballet involves movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music. It’s a fun form of expression, social interaction and exercise.

Ballet involves movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music. It’s a fun form of expression, social interaction and exercise.

Active Start Basketball (3-5 years)*
This program will focus on learning the basics of Basketball in an active and safe environment. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills. Participants will be exposed to the basic skills of ball hockey through a fun, age appropriate games approach. Both Basketball and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.


Child (6-12yrs)

Level 1 Gymnastics (6-12 years)*
Learning the basic skills and floorwork of gymnastics in a fun and active environment. Introduction to basic skills such as star and tuck jumps, forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands and bridges. Improved balance and flexibility

Level 2 Gymnastics (6-12 years) *
Focus on learning by doing, building a larger repertoire of gymnastics movements and understanding the principles of gymnastics in a fun and challenging environment. Introduction and further development of more advanced skills such as handstands, round offs, bridge kick over, backwards and dive rolls, conditioning and jumps. Increased control of movement of the body. Improved balance and flexibility.

Ballet involves movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music. It’s a fun form of expression, social interaction and exercise.

Ballet (7-8 years)*
Ballet involves movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music. It’s a fun form of expression, social interaction and exercise. 

First Steps to Home Alone*
Learn the basic steps to being home alone, including responsibility, basic first aid, emergency situations etc.

London Lightning and YMCA Basketball Leagues (8-16 yrs)**
If you want to take your game to new levels, have fun and learn from experienced professional basketball players, then this league is for you! Learn more and download the registration form here.

Nine2Twelve*
In a group of like-minded individuals, your child will explore their values and learn how to be a successful leader. Your child will gain an appreciation for open mindedness, self-reflection, positive peer relationships and community involvement through this mentorship program. Each week participants will have the opportunity to explore new themes and activities including; rope courses, nutrition, art, fitness, science, special guest speakers and lots more!

Karate*
Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open handed techniques such as knife-hands. Grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes are taught in some styles.

Active and Creative Kids
This program offers a variety of activities for children aged 6-12yrs old including sports, crafts, active games and fitness. The goal of this program is the encourage children to have a healthy lifestyle in a supervised, fun and safe environment. Come join us. There is no need to register!

Family Yoga (Ages 6-12 years with 13+ accompaniment)
Practice breathing, flexibility, and functional movements in a fun and social environment.  Physical benefits include a toned, flexible, and strong body.  Improves respiration, energy, and vitality in a  family friendly environment.

Kidz Coaching Session (Ages 10-12 years)
Kidz 10-12 years of age may access the fitness centre after completing a Kidz Coaching Session.
Kidz must be accompanied in the fitness centre at all times by a parent or guardian.

Active Start Soccer* (3-5 yrs)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to the basic skills of soccer skills through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills. Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.

FUNdamental Soccer* (6-8 yrs)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to basic and more advanced soccer skills through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills. Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.

Learn to Train Soccer Program*  (9-12 yrs)
This program will focus on learning the game of soccer in an active and safe environment. Participants will be exposed to the basic and more advanced skills of soccer through a fun, age appropriate games approach. A variety of activities will be facilitated each week allowing participants to build on fundamental movement skills and develop fundamental sport skills. Both soccer and fundamental movement skills will be applied during a scrimmage game near the end of each session.

A few other things to know:

  • Decorating of party room is the responsibility of parents/party organizer
  • All party bookings are subject to availability
  • Users must sign rental agreement and guest code of conduct forms prior to event
  • We take care of table and chair set up/take down
  • Payment must be received in full at time of booking
  • Use of the pool includes adherence to our swim admission policy – parents ARE required to swim with the party so we meet the 1:3 ratio.

PA Day & Holiday Programs
At the YMCA of Western Ontario, we’d like you to join us this year for fun-filled PA Day and Holiday Programs. With caring staff, exciting activities and terrific facilities…the YMCA is a great place to be when school is out. Each program includes active time in the gym and swimming. Parents are responsible for packing nut free snacks and lunches. Come grow with us in Spirit, Mind and Body all year round. Learn more!
